Once you have made yourself known to your target, you need to pique their interest in you.

Instead of the straightforward approach most people use, send mixed signals by embracing contradictions: strong yet gentle, naive yet sly, confident yet vulnerable.

Superficial qualities such as beauty, innocence, or coquettishness are great for initial attraction, but they will not keep your target interested for long. 

You must give them more to dig for. A complex personality that cannot be unraveled in mere weeks. You must radiate mystery. Become a paradox that will engage your target’s imagination. When they are trying to figure you out, they are thinking of you, and that is what you want.

The sending of mixed signals should be done from the very first encounter. Keep it subtle and ambiguous, but let it be noticed. 

Appear to be one thing (naive, bold, clever, humorous) while subtly revealing a hint of something else (mischievous, reserved, impulsive, melancholic).

First impressions are crucial. You don’t want to be too interested from the start. That radiates insecurity. But you also don’t want to be too disinterested. That seems cold and will turn your target off. 

Instead, you must do both at the same time. This is the art of mixed signals. It is the art of flirting.

Some people are too impatient to chase someone that confuses them. They prefer the straightforward approach. You must figure out your target’s preference early on. Sending mixed signals and creating depth for someone who is indifferent or dislikes it is a waste of time. 

You can recognize those who prefer to keep it simple, because their lifestyle will reflect the same. They prefer simple pleasures.
