This post is a Cold Reading summary. Specifically, it is a summary of Chapter 27: Drive-By Intuition Readings.

Cold Reading was written by George Hutton. This chapter summary was written by Sam Fury.

A good way to practice cold reading common experiences is with fast โ€˜drive-byโ€™ readings on strangers.

Of course, this type of thing may be mistaken for a pick-up routine. To avoid that, stick to the following rules:

Contents

The 3 Rules

1. No names: Do not initiate the exchanging of names with your target. If they initiate it, fine.

2. Make it quick: Approach, give your reading, and then leave.

3. Ask Permission: Use an icebreaker and ask them if they are comfortable with you sharing something you've observed about them.

This is about practicing your skills, not meeting new people. Your goal is to make your target feel good. Leave when they are happy and before they try to find out more about you.

The Basic Pattern

First you must choose a target. Read their body language and the situation and think of what they are feeling. Take the time to structure your cold read before you approach, following the basic pattern:

I notice something about you.

This thing I notice about you is different from everybody.

This quality makes you unique and special.

Because you are unique and special, I am impressed by you.

After your interactions, always take the time to journal the experience.
