This post is a The Art of Seduction summary. Specifically, it is a summary of Part 2, Chapter 16: Prove Yourself.
The Art of Seduction was written by Robert Greene. This chapter summary was written by Sam Fury.
When someone resists your seduction, it’s often because you have not put in enough effort.
You must show them that you’re willing to go to the lengths needed to win them over.
Your words are not meaningless. They have a vital role in seduction, but words alone aren’t enough. You must be willing to do the things you say, and also the things you don’t.
Selfless and courageous actions are powerful in seduction. They can happen spontaneously, or you can plan them.
Many would-be seducers give up on their targets too easily. Active resistance means your target is emotional about you, which can be turned in your favor with positive actions.
Likewise, giving up at the first sign of difficulty in your target’s personality isn’t a good idea either. This is often a test, or they are unsure about you. Demonstrate to them how far you’re willing to go to win them over.
Someone who is cold and distant, however, can’t be seduced.
The opportunity to “serve” your target often arises without warning. Don’t let these opportunities pass by. Do what is needed to help them.
You can also impress your target by going the extra mile. Sacrifice more than they expected for them. Sometimes, your target will purposefully create these opportunities for you as a test. Again, don’t hesitate to take action.
Don’t worry about looking like a fool. The seductive trait is that you act on their behalf without thought of the consequences.
Danger is seductive.
Demonstrate to your target your daring side. Show them that you don’t fear death like most others. You don’t actually have to risk death — just flirt with danger.
This is best done once the seduction is underway, so it appears as a pleasant twist in your personality.
Not only should you prove yourself to your target, you should also get them to prove themselves to you.
Do this by having others compete for your attention. This will make you someone to be prized.
Everyone wants different things. You must identify what your target wants and provide it.
For example, if your target doesn’t value physical prowess, demonstrating brute strength won’t impress them.
Daring deeds might work best for some targets, while the written word might have a greater effect on others.
