This post is a The Art of Seduction summary. Specifically, it is a summary of Part 1, Chapter 3: The Ideal Lover.

The Art of Seduction was written by Robert Greene. This chapter summary was written by Sam Fury.

Few women could resist Casanova, but his method of seduction was quite simple.

When he met a woman, he would observe her closely, adapt to her moods, discover what she was missing in her life, and then give her exactly that.

He was the epitome of the Ideal Lover.

A Rare Lover

To become the Ideal Lover takes more effort than many of the other roles. This is why it is so rare in today’s world.

To do it, you need to focus on the other person. Discover what he or she is missing, lacking, or disappointed by.

Unfortunately, people don’t often reveal this plainly. In fact, they often don’t know what it is themselves. You need to look at the subtle clues: their gestures, the tone of their voice, the glint in their eye, etc.

Then you must become what they lack.

A Simple Concept

Essentially, the ideal lover thinks not of himself (like most other people do), but of his (or her) target.

Doing so will make you stand out among the masses of the self-absorbed.

A Higher Calling

Most people believe that they are meant to be more than they are. Use this in your seduction.

Subtly express your belief in a hidden potential within them, perhaps something lost from their childhood, and you’ll captivate them before they even realize it.

Good Vs Ideal

A good lover will seduce their victim and show them pleasures throughout the night.

The Ideal Lover will show just as much elegance as dawn approaches.

Make no mistake. How you leave the next day will determine how attached your victim will become. Being hasty can break your spell faster than you think.

Discovering the Ideal

Everyone has an idea of what they want to become or the type of partner they want in life. It may be buried deep, but it is there.

As an Ideal Lover, your goal is to either adopt that ideal quality or bring out the ideal in the other person.

In order to do this, you must ignore all the talk and consciously projected behavior. Instead, observe their subconscious actions. Body language, tone of voice, where their eyes go, what makes them blush. You must study your targets on a deeper level.

The Cause Comes First

One of the most attractive traits of the Ideal Lover is their devotion, either to their cause or their target – but never to themselves.

Romance aside, The Ideal Lover in life (politics, business, etc.) is the one who believes in their cause so much that they put aside their own well-being. The cause always comes first. This is what attracts the masses.

As the Ideal Lover, any gesture that shows self-sacrifice or deep devotion will always earn you admiration and reward.

Dangers

As the Ideal Lover, you are essentially creating a fantasy. If you let reality creep in, and your faults are exposed, your target(s) may turn against you.

The uglier or intrusive your faults, the worse the damage.

If this happens, distance yourself by breaking off the relationship before your target gets a full sense of the truth.
