I just finished reading The Four Agreements, and I have to say—it’s one of the best books I’ve read this year.
At its core, it’s a practical guide to living with more freedom, peace of mind, and integrity. The book is built around four simple “agreements” you make with yourself.
1. Be Impeccable With Your Word
Speak with honesty and integrity. Use your words to uplift, not harm. What you say shapes not only how others feel, but also how you see yourself.
2. Don’t Take Anything Personally
People’s actions and opinions are reflections of their own experiences, not your worth. Letting go of this frees you from unnecessary stress and hurt.
3. Don’t Make Assumptions
Most misunderstandings come from unspoken expectations. Ask questions and communicate clearly instead—it makes life and relationships so much smoother.
Why This Resonates
I’ve never been religious, but I do keep a set of written principles I try to live by. After reading this, I’ve added these four agreements to the list.
How about you? Do you have guiding principles of your own? And do any of these resonate enough for you to adopt them?
