Lygia is a small village about 90 minutes by train outside of Athens.
It’s a beautiful spot with a crystal clear ocean to the south, striking mountains to the north, and plenty of warm sunny days. At least, that’s how the weather has been for the past month.
There’s a lot of Greece I didn’t see, but here are some photos of what I did manage to look at.
If there is one thing there is plenty of in Greece, it is archaeological sites, and this might be one of the most famous - the Acropolis of Athens.
I always thought that eventually I’d want to live on the west coast of whatever country I end up in. The reason is so I could watch the sunset over the sea. For some reason the idea of the sea to the south never crossed my mind.
In Lygia I was able to watch the sunrise and set over the sea. Admittedly, I only saw the sunrise a couple of times.
One day, while a friend was visiting, we hired a car and went for a drive in the mountains. On the way we saw a sign for a lake, so we stopped for a swim.
Here is just one of the many breathtaking views from that drive in the mountains.
On the last day that my friend was visiting we took a trip to Athens. One of the things on the map was a turtle pond. It was the highlight of our day - and this was the same day we went to the Acropolis!
I guess we are easily pleased.
While visiting the island of Aegina we rented a scooter and, amongst other things, rode to see an ancient olive grove. Apparently, it’s 2,000 years old.
Greece had been on my hit list of places to go for about half a decade now, so I’m happy I was able to finally scratch that itch.
As I write this I have moved on to spend a month in Varna, Bulgaria.
I guess you’ll see photos from here in a month or so.
